Uses for Animal Hides and Byproducts
How reduced demand for leather is changing animal hide applications.
Since 2011, the value of the hide as a percentage of total animal value has dropped from 8-10% to a mere 1%. As a result, the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) and the U.S. Dept. of Ag. conducted a study to explore alternative applications for animal hides and byproducts. This accompanying new report details these new sustainable uses for hide and other by-products from the slaughter process.
